Zippity Do Da

Today we got up bright and early and traveled to the Northern shore of Kauai for some good ole zip lining.  We drove up the east side of the island and the drive was beautiful.  We stopped to take pictures along the way.

We saw a lot of chickens and roosters along the way.  Apparently they were released on the island long ago and they definitely run rampant.  The thing is, they still have several KFC's!  I would think they could just catch a chicken and cook it themselves for free!!

Some mountains along the drive
We decided on Princeville Ranch Adventures for our zip lining tour.  We did something called the zip and dip which entails 9 zip lines and then a swim in a swimming hole with a waterfall.  The final zip line reaches 1000 feet and you get to race side-by-side with someone.  The heavier you are the more likely you are to win, so of course Pat won since I'm so tiny and delicate.   ;-).

Beautiful Views on the Tour
On the way back to Poi Pu we stopped at the Kilauea Lighthouse.  Access to it was closed since it was 4th of July but we experienced some beautiful views.

"Da Best" Shave Ice

We then had our first experience with Hawaiian Shave Ice.  We stopped at a family owned lunch wagon.  We figured we may as well go for "DA BEST" shave ice if we are going to do it(see picture). You get to decide on three flavors of shaved ice with vanilla ice cream on the inside.  It was a huge ball of heaven.
Our last stop on the way back to the Hyatt was at Wailua Falls.  A gorgeous waterfall.

What a great 4th of July!!!
