Race Time and "Hill of Sacrifice"

Today was an early day with picking Heidi up from work at 4:00 am and leaving at 5:00 am to take Christina to the race she was running.  When we arrived at Hickman Air Base the pass office parking lot was full of other runners waiting for the organizer to arrive with the passes.  We waited for about 30 minutes and they finally arrived with the passes.  As we headed to the gate, security informed us and several other runners that only the runner had access.  Christina jumped in with one of the organizers and Jaron and I headed for our own morning training program...McDonalds.  We discussed canvassing Waikiki for Starbucks that were closer to the apartment, but realized there were too many to count and McDonalds was a safer choice.  Christina came in 1st place in her age division (she was the only runner, just kidding, awesome job), while Jaron and I tied for 1st in the McGriddle contest.

Later today we headed to another special place in Hawaii, the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as "Punchbowl."

The Hawaiian name Puowania, translates to "Hill of Sacrifice" which was obvious as you enter the front gate.

Numerous Medal of Honor Recipients and others who made the ultimate sacrifice were laid to rest inside of the crater.

The view from the cemetery was amazing.  You could see all along the coast from Diamond Head up to the airport.  We could even see our apartment building.  The rest of the day Heidi headed to work and we went to see the new Batman Movie.  It was a great end to a long day!
