If you bake it, he will come

Today we decided to take the advice of several other residents who said that Mariners Ridge was a great hike with incredible views.  Since Heidi worked last night and again tonight we decided to go around 12:30.  On our way to the neighborhood, where the hike begins, we experienced one of the hardest rains we have seen in Hawaii (minimal to the normal Florida and South Carolina downpours).  By the time we made it to the beginning of the trail the rain had stopped and drenched hikers were emerging from the trail.  As we started up we immediately experienced the mud sticking to our shoes and adding extra weight, but we were rewarded quickly with a view of Koko Head and the Pacific.

As we continued the ascent, I quickly realized how a backpack with 3 Liters of water, camera, snacks, and trying to keep up with a crazy wife nearly sprinting, quickly drains your body on an uphill trail.

At the top of Mariners Ridge we had an incredible view of the mountains and the coastline.  This was a great hike that you should definitely do if you ever visit Hawaii.  When we finished our hour and a half hike Heidi introduced me to heaven on earth, Leonard's Bakery.  After several other futile attempts to find the bakery (thank you google maps on the iPhone), we finally found the store.

Malasadas

Leonard's Bakery is known for their Legendary Malasadas.  These hot and delicious concoctions taste just like a doughnut.  I may have ate two on the way home, and another when I sat down.  Please don't judge me, I had a hard day in Hawaii.  :)
